"many hands make light the work"

The 2009 American Sewing Guild National Community Service Project is pillowcases for Ronald McDonald House. "You are invited to participate in creating standard size pillowcases for Albuquerque’s Ronald McDonald House! The dimensions are 21” x 32” and should be made of 100% cotton in children’s prints and bright colors. Many free pillowcase patterns can be found on the Internet- simply enter “pillow case pattern” in your search engine and take your pick!"  For more details on the project please visit the ASG national "giving back" web site.  ASG Columbus made over 135 pillowcases that will be donated to our local Ronald McDonald house.

ASG Columbus teams with Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation
The ASG Columbus Chapter will not be making stockings and caps for the 2009 holiday season.

We are very excited to announce a new Charity service project for our Chapter.  We were recently contacted by staff from the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation to see if we would be interested in sewing some items for them to sell during the holidays to raise money for the charity.   ASG Columbus CAB met with them and decided we would like to contribute our services to this worthy cause.

We will be converting players "socks" to holiday hats or stockings. This is already being done by the Phoenix Coyotes Charities and we requested samples in order to know what is needed.  The samples are shown in the photo below.  We are excited to be involed in this local service project.   We need every member to help out by making a few of these hats and stockings.  They do not take much time and if we all make a few it will fullfill our commitment to the Blue Jackets foundation without one person having to do all the work.  Guidelines can be downloaded by clicking here.  Please use your own creativity also.

The 2008 American Sewing Guild National Community Service Project is The Anti-Ouch Pouch. It is a pillow that hangs from the shoulder, fitting snugly under the arm to cushion the area after breast surgery or during radiation treatment.  For more details on the project please visit the ASG national "giving back" web site

At our June 8 meeting we had a National charity sewing workshop.  Each year the Columbus chapter spends a meeting working on the National ASG I-Care project.  At this meeting we made around 36 anit-ouch pouches for breast cancer surgery recovery.  We accomplished a lot and had some nice refreshments at this fun social event.   The pouches were delivered to the ASG national convention where 10s of thousands were donated in total.

The 2007 ASG National Community Service Project was constructing clothing to address the needs of children at the Shriners Hospital for Children-Northern California. The Hospital relies on the generosity of donors to help them continue their mission of providing specialized pediatric care at no charge, conducting innovative research and providing world-class teaching programs for physicians and other health care professionals.  The American Sewing Guild  teamed up with icare and Wild Ginger Software, Inc. so that Chapters and members could download patterns and contribute to this project with ease.

Our chapter scheduled get-togethers to “work” on constructing these garments to donate at the 2007 National American Sewing Guild Convention in Sacramento, California which was held in July.  Members at the workshops and at home made 60 items that were donated at the convention last summer.  We were pleased with the output considering we are a relatively small chapter.
